Clairvaux MacKillop College, a Catholic co-educational secondary school located on the Southside of Brisbane, reached out to the market for an upgrade of their auditorium AV system.
Clairvaux Mackillop College was faced with an aging AMX control and video system that was starting to cause operational issues for users. As the college was left with minimal documentation after installation of their original system, a strict selection criteria was put in place to ensure the new system would both provide a quality result for now, and be easily serviceable well into the future.
Our proposal included a full AV infrastructure upgrade. With the need for a large number of varied inputs and a variety of different output devices, a Crestron Digital Media Platform was an obvious choice.
A number of deteriorating VGA and composite video switchers were replaced with a centralised DM16x16 Frame. This was populated with a variety of 4K input and output cards to suit the requirements. We paired this with a number of DM 4K HDMI Input transmitters and DM 4K Output Scalers at each of the display locations. These ensure accurate image reproduction regardless of the input source.
To complement the video distribution system, a Crestron CP3 processor was installed to handle control of all video and audio devices. User control is handled by two 7-inch touch screens and three 10-button keypads. Controlled elements include two Panasonic PTZ Cameras, three data projectors, Crestron Avia DSP, Panasonic BluRay player and the Dynalite house light system.
Working with a venue with a variety of room layouts requires simple user UCI. With a variety of technical and non-technical users, making the operation simple was critical. The custom layout of the touch screens incorporates both simple and advanced modes; as well as easy to use keypad controllers. This ensures the user is presented with only the control they need for day to day operation, while allowing for full control for larger productions.
Feedback from staff from the initial use of the system was very positive, with no assistance being required from IT Staff to date. The benefits of the centralised audio and video framework are already being reflected in operation of the system, with reduced setup times for productions and events. The detailed drawings, complete labelling of cables installed and quality rack work has resulted in the college being left with an AV system that will be high performing, functional and serviceable well into the future.
