There were three key deliverables for our team on this project. One: design and install an audio system for the ride that would contribute to an exhilarating experience for park guests. Two: enable staff to easily broadcast crucial safety messages to guests in the event of an emergency. Three: integrate into Warner Bros. Movie World’s existing park-wide deployment of Q-SYS.

For the speakers in the queuing area and ride-loading zone, we used a combination of QSC AD-S6T’s and AD-S8T’s. These were selected for their coverage, SPL output and frequency response capabilities. The 28x speakers are powered by a mix of QSC ISA500TI and ISA800TI amplifiers. The system is controlled by a Q-SYS Core 500i and custom-configured touch panel.

With safety being paramount to the overall design of the ride, we included a Q-SYS Paging station. This was programmed to allow the ride operators to instantly page any of the zones or play pre-recorded safety messages.

We also integrated to the occupancy warning system on the DC Rivals Hypercoaster. This eliminated the need for operators to access multiple interfaces to play the safety messages.

To meet the Q-SYS integration requirement, we collaborated with Warner Bros. Movie World’s IT department to deploy Q-SYS into this new area of the theme park. We configured the existing Q-SYS System to accommodate central monitoring and control of the Hypercoaster sound system.

One of the enjoyable and unique aspects of this project was having our team design a system that worked not only technically, but also aesthetically inconspicuous.

This involved disguising speakers within gardens in the queuing area, as well as concealing and colour-matching within theming structures such as 3D Character Billboards.
